“I believe it is totally up to the player to take the responsibility for attaining their highest desired level of achievement [in anything they do]. It is the responsibility of our support team to do just that – support the players efforts and desires to our fullest. Always keeping in mind honesty, caring, respect, courtesy, morals, ethics and ultimately best effort.”
Gordie Tumilson joins the Hockey Horizons Advisory group with years of experience as a player, goaltending coach and mentor. As a player, Gordie propelled his career all the way from youth hockey to the Winnipeg Jets (WHA), where he played from 1972-76. He captured an Avco World trophy at that that time.
Upon retirement from his playing days, Gordie immediately began passing on his knowledge and experience to younger goaltenders and their families. He has been training, teaching and mentoring goalies for the past 40 years. Gordie’s passion for helping young players and his ability to stay current with the latest techniques has made him a valuable asset to any goaltender or organization who he works with.
Hockey Horizons founder, Mike Butters, is excited about the addition of Gord. “As with our players, our advisors have to be the right fit to be a part of Hockey Horizons. From the moment I met Gordie, I knew this was the right fit. He is the perfect mentor for our goaltenders and their families. It is rare to find people that can offer their wealth of experience with the passion Gordie brings.”
Gordie has worked with dozens of goalies who have elevated their game to the junior and college ranks.
